Evangelize: This is the Watchword!

The Great Commission:

Give us a watchword for the hour,
A thrilling word, a word of Power;
A battle cry, a flaming breath,
A call to conquest or to death;
A word to rouse the church from rest,
To heed the master's high behest.
The call is given, ye hosts arise,
The watchword is EVANGELIZE!
To fallen men, a dying race,
Make known the gift of gospel grace.
The world that now in darkeness lies,
O Church of Christ, EVANGELIZE!

The Apostle Paul’s Evangelist Approach:

Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I didn't take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I've become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!
1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (The Message)

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
    -- 1 Peter 2:24

The Million Dollar Question:
WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

How to know Jesus is Real.
Feel like you're missing something, like you've got a hole inside that nothing can fill?  Have you been looking high and low for what might fill that empty space? What you've been looking for is Jesus Christ!

Or maybe all is well with your world; you have a good career, make a handsome salary, live in a beautiful home and drive a nice car. God says you still need Jesus to get to Him!

Jesus was sent by God to give everyone who believed on Jesus, eternal life. Heaven as a final destination. Jesus paved the way for you and I to heaven by dying on the cross for our sins and making a way for us to have a relationship with the Creator of the universe. He came for you and everyone--who chooses to accept him and his path. And you can invite Him into your heart by taking the most important steps of your life.

Step One
Recognize that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)The emptiness you feel comes from trying to meet impossible standards of doing "good."  On the other hand, the false sense of security you feel is from thinking that by doing good deeds, you couldn't be a sinner.

We are born into sin caused by Adam and Eve, on that disobedient day in the garden. Bummer! That meant every person from then on inherited a sinful nature.

We can't help but fall short because of sin. And because we fall short, we need our souls reconciled (prepared to be acceptable) to God.

Step Two
Understand that "The wages of sin is death"(Romans 6:23). Sin separates us from God. Being separated from God means a person is spiritually dead; a soul which is spiritually dead cannot enter heaven nor stand in God's presence. If you remain spiritually dead (a sinner without being reconciled to God), you're not headed for heaven.

The good news is, God provided a way out. Begin understanding this Good News by [reading] The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in the New Testament.

Step Three
Repent! "Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19) Repent means to turn around and walk in a different direction. That's what you need to do to be placed into God's family (Acts 1:19). Heaven is a prepared place for whosoever wants to repent. By repenting or turning away from your sin, you can enter into a relationship with God that promises to restore you.

Step Four
Confess! "That if thou confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man beliveth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)

Step Five
Be Baptized! "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the [name] of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)
  • Baptism is commanded by Christ (Mark 16:15,16).
  • Baptism is symbolic of regeneration; also known as the "rebirth"  (John 3:3-7).
  • Baptism identifies you with Christ and illustrates you are cleansed (Acts 22:16).
  • Christ was BAPTIZED! (Matt 3:13-16)
Step Six
Be filled with the Holy Ghost! "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave utterance." (Acts 2:4)  The Holy Ghost is essential. "For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost (identified) not many days from now."

God purposes all "believers" to have the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) because the Holy Ghost:
  • Regenerates you     (John 3:3-5)
  • Indwells in you        (Romans 8:11)
  • Anoints you            (1John 2:20,27)
  • Baptizes you           (Acts 2:17-41)
  • Empowers you        (Micah 3:8)
  • Sanctifies you         (Romans 15:16, 2 Thessalonians 2:13)
  • Fills you                  (Acts 2:4)
Jesus is the only way! "Neither is their salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Salvation through faith in Jesus is the only way to be assured of a relationship with God and a place in heaven when you die. Not being a good person, going to church, or doing good things can give you these two things. Accept Him now and He promises to change your life and guarantee your eternity!

When you recognize:

That you are a sinner.
That remaining in sin assures eternal death in hell.
That repentance and acceptance of Jesus' death on the cross is the only way to heaven.

That by receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior by faith, the Bible says...
You are on your way!
