"You Can't Hit A Target If You Do Not Aim."
What do successful executives, presidential candidates, Olympic gold medalists and Tiger Woods all have in common? A Coach. How about your teenager?
The art of coaching teens uses a variety of skills:
-
Active listening (like most people, teenagers like it when adults "listen" too.)
-
Powerful questioning (asking questions discovery
-
Direct communication and
-
Action plans—just to name a few. For the most part, favorable results are yours to have, but it takes making the decision to get the results you desire.
For many teens, working with a Life Coach is a life changing experience--I know this to be true because I too was coached as a teen!
Their self-perception is often transformed.
Their life direction and goals are clarified.
The obstacles, fears and challenges they faced become manageable.
The benefit of teens working with a Life Coach are:
-
They [listen] to you.
-
They ask thought-provoking questions.
-
They offer objective feedback.
-
They make observations to support your goal.
-
They help you develop a "game plan" to reach your goals and develop your potential.
Christian Teen Coaching:
There is an added appraoch available to reaching your life goals, overcoming obstacles, fears and facing challenges. The process involves prayer and seeking the guidance of the Lord.
There is an underlying trust that can only be shared with a Coach who brings integrity, faith, ethics, balance and confidentiality to the coaching process. A Christian Teen Coach walks alongside you providing all that you perceive God wants you to be, do, and become in life.
Coach Tamara recognizes the power of [emotion] as a driving force to make or not make decisions. Teenagers are full of [emotion]. It's in the early years that poor or permanent decisions are made from run-away emotions (sex, parenthood, abuse, drugs, gang affliation, and other illegal activity.) Learning how to manage one's [emotions] can keep a teen safe or place them in danger.
Effective Coaching brings with it a deep understanding of the power of emotion. When I work with a teen, the goal is to show them how-to navigate through fear and obstacles that naturally creep in when facing challenges in life as a young person.
God's word reminds us that "We're given a spirit of love, power and a sound mind!" (2 Tim 1:7, KJV)
This coaching approach is a compilation of guidelines set forth by National Coaching Programs, Christian Coaches Community, Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Single Coaching Sessions:
Ready? Set? Grow!
Some parents choose single sessions for their teen. They prefer to ‘try out' an introductory session committing to ongoing monthly sessions. Single sessions are scheduled on a space available basis.
Single sessions can be an effective method when teens and parents want: Feedback, insight or clarity from a neutral third-party.
To prepare for an upcoming school project, audition or (fill in #3 option), after a three-month coaching session, parents and teens may choose to sign up for “maintenance-only”. These sessions are designed on an as-needed-bases depending on your particular goal.
"On-going" Coaching Sessions:
Mom, Dad, if you are serious about supporting your teen in making the changes you've been trying to make for months then engaging in ongoing coaching sessions is a sound and smart decision. A three month coaching session to create sustained change and achieve set goals is recommended. Clients participate in three-scheduled 50-minute coaching sessions per month.
In addition, your teen is entitled to (5) “Snapshot” sessions – that is, (5) 10-minute phone sessions to address specific challenges, questions or opportunities that arise between sessions or your choice of (10) e-mail sessions. Whichever format is best and the most comfortable time frame to measure progress is the one used.

Patients diagnosed with mesothelioma find themselves at the beginning of a journey. Because of the rarity of the disease and the developing nature of the treatments, it is a journey that will take them on sparsely-traveled, out of the way back-roads. The kind of roads that are often difficult to navigate. Difficult, that is, unless you have a good road map and a Spiritual Coach.
Yes—you can be healthy and HAPPY even if you have MS. Including a Spiritual Coach in your medical tool-box to walk along side you while navigating the twists and turns MS brings can be helpful and encouraging-not to mention provide the support needed for inner strength.
I have a sister that has battled MS for fourteen years. Doctors prescribe treatments and medicines. God prescribes courage, strength and peace. My sister has been compared with patients who have MS yet have not exercised faith in the situation to patients that have. Her doctors have stated “it must be your faith….” She is a walking, talking testimony.
Whether you just received a diagnosis of MS or Cancer or have been living with it for a long time—know this; God has not forgotten you. Spiritual Coaching can help maintain the mental quality of life in the years ahead.
If you or someone close to you is living with MS or Cancer, invite them to sign up and try a 30 minute session. There's no charge. Simply fill out the information on the "Contact Us" and in the Subject field write "patient".
